Testing and Validation Engineer

Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire, United Kingdom Deadline: 25th May 2026

Unleash your potential. Change the game with Gripple.

Confidence in our products starts with testing – and that’s where you come in. We’re looking for a Testing and Validation Engineer to join Gripple’s testing and validation team, delivering rigorous, hands‑on testing that underpins everything we design and manufacture. If you’re curious, practical, and motivated by engineering evidence rather than opinion, you’ll thrive in this role.

Why Gripple?

We’re not just innovators—we’re game-changers. Since 1989, Gripple has led the charge in wire joining and suspension systems. As a 100% employee-owned business, we don’t just hire talent—we invest in it. You’ll be backed by a global infrastructure, a powerhouse support team, and a culture that champions ownership, passion, and performance.

What’s in it for you:

  • Share ownership: Buy a stake in Gripple and the GLIDE group and share in our success
  • 15% non-contributory pension
  • 32 days’ holiday, increasing with long service, plus quarterly ‘thank you’ days and your birthday off
  • Private healthcare, family-focused policies, and exceptional benefits that support your wellbeing at every stage
  • World-class product training, career development, and room to grow

The role:

As a Testing and Validation Engineer, you’ll play a key role in supporting new product development, continuous improvement, and quality assurance. You’ll plan and execute a wide range of mechanical, environmental, and metrological tests, analyse results, and communicate accurate, reliable results that validate product performance and safety under real-world conditions.

This is a hands‑on engineering role, well suited to someone who enjoys practical testing, problem‑solving, and applying statistical thinking to real‑world products. Key responsibilities will include:

  • delivering mechanical testing to verify the performance, safety, and reliability of Gripple products. This includes tensile, compression, cyclic, impact, temperature, and fire testing, carried out with a high degree of care and repeatability.
  • operating a wide range of laboratory and test equipment, including tensiometers, analysing force‑displacement behaviour and other key performance characteristics to build clear engineering evidence.
  • preparing high‑quality test samples through potting, grinding, polishing, and general specimen preparation.
  • conducting metrology and validation activities, using CMM, verniers, gauges, and other measurement tools to verify component dimensions and characteristics against engineering requirements.
  • interpreting engineering drawings and specifications, developing appropriate measurement and testing strategies, and completing ISIRs and validation documentation with precision and traceability.
  • planning and carrying out corrosion and weathering testing, including salt spray, accelerated ageing, and exposure‑based testing, to assess long‑term durability, surface performance, and material behaviour in real‑world environments. Analysing results to support material selection, design decisions, and product validation for demanding applications.
  • applying statistical and analytical techniques including DOE, SPC, ANOVA, Gauge R&R, MSA, and capability studies to understand variation, identify trends, and draw robust conclusions from test data.
  • using tools such as Excel and Minitab to analyse data, clearly visualise results, and communicate technical insights that inform design decisions and risk assessments.
  • producing clear, well‑structured test reports that explain not just what happened, but why – translating complex test results into information that can be confidently used by engineers, project teams, quality, and manufacturing.
  • designing, building, and refining custom jigs, fixtures, and test setups to support new test methods, evolving products, and bespoke validation requirements.
  • working collaboratively across R&D, manufacturing, quality, and operations, contributing to defect investigations, root‑cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities.
  • developing a strong understanding of Gripple’s products, manufacturing processes, and end‑use applications, enabling you to provide informed testing advice throughout the product lifecycle.

Who you are:

You must be qualified by experience and should also be able to offer the following:

  • strong understanding of metals and plastics, including their properties and behaviours
  • knowledge of heat treatment processes and their effects on materials
  • experience with measurement systems such as OGP, including programming and datum creation
  • competence in using vernier callipers and gauges for precise measurement
  • ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • familiarity with manufacturing processes and product functions
  • experience with Creo CAD, Minitab, and Windchill systems
  • high attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy
  • strong analytical thinking and data interpretation skills
  • practical problem-solving approach
  • curious mindset with the ability to question, investigate, and understand product behaviour
